Creativity unleashed!

At. Long. Last.

I am a York based artist now gleefully creating full time after a long career in Further Education. While I had a love-hate relationship with my job as Principal of a Sixth Form College (loved the students and my colleagues - hated the bureaucracy and politics of education) I am giddy with excitement at spending my days focused on painting, drawing and collage.

My work is figurative, ranging from life drawing and portraits to more whimsical depictions of characters from history, literature and myth (real and imagined). I have always been captivated by the very special magic that happens when lines and colours on a surface convey the complexity of the human form. Creating a likeness, capturing a moment, establishing a connection between subject and viewer that conveys the essence of humanity across time and space is the ultimate goal.

My Story

As long as I can remember I have loved drawing. As a child I would while away hours copying pictures from art books and creating whole imaginary worlds on paper - perhaps it says something about me that I was never happier. Sadly this wholehearted love of creativity didn’t survive art college - and I have been on a journey to recapture the sheer delight of making and sharing art. Find out more below:
